Finding partners and allies
One of the key factors in overcoming challenges across the projects was creating supportive partnerships and building relationships with people who can act as allies. These people and organisations have been able to offer knowledge, help and advice at different stages of the projects.
"When we were first starting and researching, I couldn’t find any of the information I needed especially from statutory services. I got information and developed a vision from visiting lots of places and speaking with other families."
Inform/involve a very wide range of people, including your commissioning manager, neighbours, local members, possible housing association, adult social care learning disability team manager but don’t expect others to share the load and do some of the work. They will generally stay at the level of ‘advising’, and assume that you as parents will do the work between meetings.
