Our journey, their future
Person-centred supported living
Learning and advice from groups of family carers who have made it happen
Introduction
JMS Trust’s purpose has been to empower people with learning disabilities and their families to imagine and create their own future. We know that planning your next steps or what happens when a parent carer is no longer around can be both an emotional and practical challenge.
We have spent the last 8 years supporting groups of families to do just that. This resource is to showcase the significant efforts families have made to set up supported living for their young people and share their learning. Through this we aim to help other groups with a similar vision, by sharing advice and learning, as well as hope from the stories of each of the groups we have supported.
Here we have pulled together stories of success and the bumpy road to get there, you can read about the different projects, and their differing approaches and advice. We hope it will inspire you when thinking about what is possible in your young persons future and offer a roadmap for the start of your journey.
With thanks
Creating this resource has only been possible thanks to the families we have worked with.
We are grateful to them for sharing their learning, opinions and stories with us.
We hope their young people and projects will continue to thrive for many years to come.
"Creating this resource has only been possible thanks to the families we have worked with."
